In my Master Thesis project, we addressed the role of effective abstract communication methods in human-robot interaction using non-anthropomorphic embodiments. We empirically evaluated which kind of cues help to understand how to interact with the system autonomously. We developed a study in the eXperience Induction Machine (XIM), a mixed reality immersive space created for experimentation in psychology. I considered the XIM as a non-anthropomorphic robot to develop different states to make it self-explanatory and autonomous.
I designed and developed three modes of communication – XIM’s “language” – to support users in 3 navigation tasks: light on the tactile floor, a moving object in the 3D environment; or a spatial sound.
