I am a Lecturer in Creative Technologies and Human-Computer Interaction at the University of Portsmouth (United Kingdom).
Previously I worked as a Research Associate at the School of Computer Science and Informatics and IROHMS at Cardiff University (United Kingdom).
I hold a PhD in Computer Science (Human-Computer Interaction) from Lancaster University, which I pursued at the Interactive Systems Group under the supervision of Prof. Hans Gellersen. My PhD research focused on the application of novel gaze-based interactions in Games, combining human-centred design concepts with new interaction mechanics and game dynamics. I combined my PhD research with my role as an Associate Lecturer in the Computer Science Undergraduate program at Lancaster University in Human-Computer Interaction and Creative Technology modules.
Before my PhD, I obtained my Master’s degree in Cognitive Science and Interactive Media in Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain) in 2015, and a Master by Research in Computer Science in Lancaster University (UK) in 2016. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Audiovisual Systems Engineering from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain).
My research sits within the field of Human-Computer Interaction at the intersection of Interaction Design, Emerging Technologies, and Play. I am motivated by a desire to understand how we could interact with computing systems in the future and how technology transforms human behaviour and perception. My research utilises the design and development of new – sometimes disruptive and provocative – interaction concepts (or metaphors), techniques and artefacts as a way of experimentation to gain insights (Research-through-Design); emphasises the understanding of human needs, behaviour and capabilities when designing new interactive systems (user-centred design methods), and combines different ways of gathering and analysing information from meta-analysis to evaluation with users (using mixed methods). Key areas of focus include the exploration of new ways to play videogames, technology’s impact on human experiences (e.g., the perception of creepiness), human-data interaction, and the use of interactive systems in domestic and cultural contexts.
My current research is on Human-Computer Interaction, with a diverse focus, including Emerging Technology, Games, Gaze-based Interaction, Human-Data Interaction and Digital Heritage.
